Reflections on Being Alive, Here & Now

1-daliaLamaThe longer I’m here, the fewer things matter. I am the same Terry Hall that’s been writing about James Arthur Ray and the people that died in his Spiritual Warrior Seminar. You can find intros to those post in the site.  I bring this p only to create a context for this article.

I am a Spiritualist which means that I believe in life after death, communication with Spirit & reincarnation. Having practiced this religion and philosophy for 20+ years, I have many personal experiences with death, dying and life after death. I have  emphasized that my experiences are all personal and as I understand them. I practice and have taught meditation. I have studied the teachings of many of the great teachers in history. I have a personal relationship with many discarnate beings. Technically I am a trance-medium.

I have also been participated in the “Transformational Seminar Industry” in all areas (sales, marketing, production, leading, training & development). My experience for the most part was positive and what I chose to do. I can also say that there acceptance, belonging, purpose, stress and artificial reality that gets created with in a Seminar Company. I imagine that the experience is not unlike that of a “gang”.

Transformational Seminars” can also create a great deal of stress. I’m sure I’m not first to coin the term, but I would say that many people experience “Post Seminar Stress Disorder” or PSSD (not to be confused with PiSSeD). PSSD is PTSD symptoms brought about by Seminars that Practice Powerful Psychological Techniques and Methods on participants without specific medical training or supervision.

In one seminar, Money & You makes customers promise to not make any major life changes or decisions for 7 days following the seminar and uses a teaching principal called “purtabation” which is a process of inducing extreme stress on participant to affect a change. I personally have experienced classic PTSD symptoms after participating in these transformational seminars and made very stupid decisions in my business and my personal life.

I quit all participation in Seminars in 2007. I could have participated in all of the Seminars offered by James Ray at no monetary cost. In 2005 – mid 2007, I would have been all over it and treated that opportunity as manna from the heavens. But instead, I got back to my Spiritual roots and got back in touch with myself and what’s important to me.

Today, I have a life that is perfect and by my design. I have found what is important to me and honored it. I am happy, not as an affirmation but as a statement of fact. It’s what the Dalai Lama has said is our reason and purpose for being here this life. I first read that 15 or so years ago and today, I understand what that means.
